Frequently Asked Questions
(Everything you might be wondering, including the things you’re not quite sure how to ask)
Choosing the right photographer is one of the most important decisions you’ll make for your wedding. I specialise in documentary wedding photography — capturing your day with elegance, authenticity, and artistry. I photograph weddings across Bath, Bristol, Somerset, Dorset, Devon, and Wiltshire, and below are answers to the questions couples most often ask.
If you don’t see your question here, you’re always very welcome to get in touch.

What is documentary wedding photography?
Also known as reportage or photojournalistic wedding photography, documentary wedding photography is a natural, unobtrusive approach that captures your wedding as it unfolds without staging or interrupting moments. It is about capturing the real story of your wedding day.
Rather than directing the day, I observe it. The laughter, the nerves, the quiet in-between moments, the energy on the dance floor… all of it. The result is a set of images that feel honest, timeless and full of life. Photographs that reflect not just how your wedding looked, but how it felt to be there.
Why choose a documentary wedding photographer over a traditional one?
Traditional photographers often interrupt moments to pose or direct people to get the perfect photograph. With my documentary style, you can relax and be fully present with your guests. Couples often tell me they hardly noticed I was there, yet their galleries are filled with meaningful, candid moments. This style ensures your photographs are both natural and artistic.
Will you photograph group shots at weddings and details as well?
Yes, I photograph family group shots as well as natural, documentary moments throughout your wedding day.
I keep group photographs relaxed and efficient so you can spend more time enjoying your celebrations.
While my website focuses on natural, storytelling images, I photograph the full story of your day. That includes family group photographs, details, your cake, your dress and all the thoughtful elements you’ve chosen.
Do we need to be confident in front of the camera?
Not at all.
Most couples tell me they feel awkward before their wedding, and it’s completely normal. You don’t need to perform or know what to do.
My approach is calm and unobtrusive, so after a little while most people relax into the day and forget the camera is there. That’s when the most natural and meaningful images happen. What makes your approach unique?
I blend the honesty of documentary wedding photography with the elegance of fine-art editorial. This means your photographs will include both raw, emotional moments and beautifully composed, artistic frames worthy of an heirloom album.
You can explore examples of my style in my wedding photography portfolio, showcasing weddings from Bath, Bristol, Somerset, Dorset, Devon, and Wiltshire and beyond.

Are you inclusive to the LGBTQ+ community?
Always. I am open to all and anyone and I am constantly looking for ways to improve my inclusivity. I have attended the Love For All LGBTQ+ Wedding Workshop and would love more opportunities to work with the LGBTQ+ community.
I aim to create a warm and welcoming space for every couple, and I photograph all kinds of love stories with the same care and respect.
Are you inclusive to the Neurodivergent and Disabled Communities?
I am very familiar with the neurodivergent community and am likely neurodivergent myself – my sister, husband, two of my children and a number of other family members are autistic / ADHD or both.
I also work two days a week with adults and teenagers with learning disabilities, in the fundraising and marketing team of SWALLOW Charity. I love making a difference with my skills and helping to empower this community.
I am very happy to talk through any adjustments you may need ahead of your wedding or photography session.
Do you travel for weddings?
Yes, I photograph weddings across the South West including Bath, Bristol, Somerset, Wiltshire, Dorset and Devon.
I’m based between Bath and Bristol and regularly travel throughout the region. I’m also happy to travel within Southern UK for weddings.
Do you work with a second photographer?
For larger weddings, or when couples would like both sets of morning preparations captured when they are getting ready in different places, I recommend a second photographer. This ensures we cover all angles of your day – from your perspective and your partner’s – as well as plenty of candid guest moments.
How far in advance should we book you?
I take on a limited number of weddings each year to ensure each couple receives my full attention. For popular summer weekends in Bath, Bristol, Somerset, Dorset, Devon, and Wiltshire, I recommend booking 12–18 months in advance but it’s always worth asking in case I have any last minute availability.
To check if your date is available, please get in touch.
When will we receive our photographs?
You’ll receive a small preview shortly after your wedding so you have something to relive and share.
Your full gallery is usually delivered within 8 weeks, shorter in off peak months, sometimes a little longer at peak summer season.
How many images will we receive from our wedding?
Most couples receive between 500 and 800 images for full day wedding photography coverage.
For shorter coverage, this is typically around 300+ images. Every image is carefully selected and individually edited.
Will you give us any direction?
Yes, but only when it’s helpful.
For most of the day, I document what is happening in front of me without interruption. If you’d like a few group photographs or some relaxed portraits together, I’ll guide you in a way that feels easy and natural.
Nothing overly posed, nothing that takes you away from your guests for too long.
We’re not “cool” or particularly stylish… are we your kind of couple?
Absolutely.
You don’t need to be anything other than yourselves.
I photograph weddings for people who care about being present, about their guests and about the feeling of the day. Whether that looks elegant, relaxed, joyful, chaotic or all of the above.
My work is about people, not performance.

How many images will we receive?
For a full-day wedding, you can expect around 500–700 carefully edited images, depending on the length of coverage. A preview will be delivered within a week, and your full online gallery will be ready within approximately 8 weeks. For shorter coverage you will receive around 300+ images. You can find more about what is included in my wedding packages here.
You’ll also have the option to order fine art albums, professional prints and further creative products directly from your gallery.
Do you offer albums and prints?
Yes. I create luxury fine art wedding albums, hand-bound in beautiful materials, as well as museum-quality prints. These heirlooms ensure your story lives on for generations, not just on a screen.
These albums are particularly popular with couples marrying in Bath, Bristol, Somerset, Dorset, Devon, and Wiltshire, as a lasting record of their celebrations.
What kind of weddings do you photograph?
All kinds.
From village halls and garden marquees to stately homes and elegant venues across the South West.
My approach stays the same. I document what is happening in front of me with the same care, attention and creativity, wherever your wedding takes place.
How many weddings do you photograph each year?
I photograph around 20 weddings per year.
This allows me to give each couple a high level of care and attention throughout the whole process.
What happens if it rains on our wedding day?
Rain can create some of the most atmospheric, romantic photographs. I work creatively in all weather and always bring professional equipment suited for every condition. Your story will be beautifully captured, whether your wedding is in a countryside estate in Dorset or a historic venue in Bath or Bristol.
And according to many countries rain on your wedding day is good luck!
Are you insured as a wedding photographer?
Yes, I am fully insured with professional indemnity and public liability cover (this is often required by venues and ensures you are fully covered) and I always carry backup equipment. You can enjoy complete peace of mind knowing every detail is taken care of.
What happens if you are ill on the wedding day?
In the unlikely event that I’m unable to attend, I will arrange a trusted professional wedding photographer as a replacement.
I’m part of established UK photography networks, so your day will still be documented with care and professionalism.
We’re a bit awkward in front of the camera… is that going to be a problem?
What happens if your camera equipment fails?
I always bring professional backup cameras, lenses and memory cards to every wedding.
Everything is checked in advance so your coverage continues without interruption.
Not at all.
Most couples tell me this before their wedding, and it’s completely normal. You don’t need to perform or know what to do.
My approach is calm and unobtrusive, so after a little while you can simply enjoy your day and forget the camera is there.
Will you tell us what to do on the day?
Only when it’s genuinely helpful.
For most of the day, I document what is happening in front of me without interruption. If you’d like a few group photographs or some relaxed portraits, I’ll guide you in a way that feels easy and natural.
We’re not particularly “cool”… are we your kind of couple?
Absolutely. Who defines cool anyway..?
You don’t need to be anything other than yourselves. The couples I work with care more about the experience of their day than performing for the camera.
That’s where the most meaningful photographs come from.

Can we meet you before the wedding?
Yes, and I always recommend it.
Whether it’s a relaxed video call or email conversation, it’s a chance for you to feel comfortable and for me to understand what matters most to you.
What do you wear to a wedding?
I dress in a way that blends in with your day.
Usually something smart, comfortable and unobtrusive, so I can move easily and photograph without drawing attention.
What makes your approach different?
I focus on how your wedding feels, not just how it looks.
With a background in marketing, alongside studying art history and cinema, I’m naturally drawn to storytelling, light and human connection.
I notice the small, in-between moments just as much as the big ones.
What’s the next step if we’d like to book?

More FAQs
Will documentary photography still capture all the important moments?
Yes. Every key moment — from your vows to the first kiss and confetti — is covered. The difference is in the way they’re photographed: naturally, beautifully, without interruption. No asking you to repeat things for the camera. You’ll relive your day exactly as it happened.
Do we still get couple portraits with documentary photography?
Definitely. While most of the day is unposed, I’ll invite you to step away for a few quiet moments together. These portraits are relaxed and natural — guided lightly to ensure beautiful light and composition, while keeping your connection at the heart of every image.
Is documentary wedding photography right for shy couples?
Yes — in fact, it’s ideal. Because I don’t ask you to pose or perform, you can simply enjoy the day while I capture genuine emotion and connection. Many camera-shy couples tell me they were amazed by how comfortable and natural it felt.
Can you still create editorial or artistic images in a documentary style?
Absolutely. My approach combines documentary storytelling with fine-art composition — so your gallery feels elegant and magazine-worthy, while staying true to your story. It’s the perfect balance of real and refined.
How many hours of wedding photography do we need?
Most couples book full-day coverage (8–10 hours) to ensure the story is told from morning preparations through to the evening celebrations. For intimate weddings or elopements, I offer shorter options — tailored to your plans.
Do documentary photographers edit their images?
Yes — every image is individually edited to reflect the mood, tone, and emotion of your day. My editing style is clean, natural, and timeless, ensuring your photographs remain beautiful for decades to come.
Do you photograph elopements or small weddings?
Yes. I love photographing intimate weddings and elopements. The smaller scale allows for even more emotional storytelling and connection. Each elopement package is tailored to your unique plans.
How can we make the most of our wedding photography?
Relax, trust the process, and focus on each other. The more present you are, the more authentic your images will be. I’ll take care of the rest — observing, anticipating, and documenting your story with care.
