Pennard House: A Family Home Turned Exclusive Wedding Venue

Hidden away in the rolling Somerset countryside, Pennard House is one of those rare wedding venues that blends history, character, and complete exclusivity. Built more than 400 years ago and still lovingly cared for by the same family, it retains the warmth of a lived-in home while offering everything you could possibly need for a wedding. Couples often say it doesn’t feel like a “venue” at all—it feels like home.
Weddings at Pennard House
Pennard House can accommodate up to 120 guests for the day and 180 in the evening, making it the perfect size for both intimate and larger celebrations. The beauty of Pennard is that the entire day flows seamlessly across different spaces—there’s no need to shuffle in and out of the same room.
Ceremonies: Many couples choose to exchange vows in the pretty garden pavilion, surrounded by lawns and flowers. If the weather doesn’t play ball, the brand-new conservatory makes a bright and elegant alternative. For those seeking a religious service, there’s also a charming church on-site, just a short walk away.
Drinks Reception: The terrace is a wonderful spot for post-ceremony drinks and canapés, with views across the gardens.
Wedding Breakfast & Dancing: The Coach House sets the scene for dining and dancing. Upstairs, guests enjoy the wedding breakfast, while downstairs transforms into a lively dance floor once the sun sets.
Extra Spaces: The Napier Room offers a lovely indoor option for up to 90 guests, and the conservatory doubles as a chic drinks reception space.

A True Home-from-Home
What sets Pennard House apart is its exclusivity. The team never hosts back-to-back weddings, meaning couples can truly make it their own. With space for 26 people to stay overnight, many couples opt to arrive the night before to settle in, and extend the celebrations into the following day.
Unlike self-catering venues, Pennard House has staff on hand throughout the wedding day—welcoming guests, assisting with the flow of events, and making sure everything feels effortless. Couples are treated as if the house were their own, supported by the dedicated wedding directors who guide them through the planning process and are by their side from the early morning breakfast right through to midnight.

Flexible for Every Couple
Pennard House attracts couples with a range of budgets, offering both weekday and weekend weddings. The flexibility means that couples can create a day that feels true to them, whether that’s a relaxed midweek gathering or a full weekend celebration. On-the-day weddings are also possible for those who prefer a simpler approach.

More Than a Wedding Venue
When weddings aren’t taking place, Pennard House is also used for retreats—songwriting, book writing, and other creative gatherings. This adds to its unique character: a place with a relaxed, soulful energy that inspires creativity as much as it does romance.

Why Couples Love It
Pennard House isn’t about being picture-perfect or polished to the point of feeling impersonal. It’s about warmth, character, and that rare ability to make couples and their guests feel instantly at ease. For couples seeking a wedding venue that feels like home—but better, Pennard House is truly one of Somerset’s most special places.
- Exclusivity: It’s all yours, with no chance of bumping into another wedding party.
- Heritage: Over 400 years of history, still in the same family.
- Flexibility: Outdoor ceremonies, church weddings, or elegant indoor options.
- Atmosphere: A family home with a lived-in charm—elegant but never stuffy.
- Support: A dedicated team who are deeply involved in the planning and present throughout the wedding day.
Pennard House Wedding Photography
The relaxed, homely feel of Pennard House makes it a perfect match for documentary wedding photography with editorial edge. With the day flowing naturally across its beautiful spaces—from outdoor ceremonies in the garden pavilion to dancing in the Coach House—the best moments often unfold spontaneously.

As a documentary wedding photographer in Somerset, I find that Pennard House offers an incredible backdrop for authentic storytelling. The smiles, the nerves, the embrace on the terrace, the laughter during speeches: these are the details that tell the real story of your wedding day.
My approach at Rose Dedman Photography is to work unobtrusively, letting you relax and enjoy your celebration without interruption. Rather than orchestrating your day, I focus on capturing genuine, unscripted moments—the kind that, when you look back on your photographs years from now, instantly transport you back to how it felt.
At a venue like Pennard House, where couples value warmth, individuality, and that wonderful “home from home” feeling, documentary wedding photography is the perfect fit. If you’re looking for Pennard House wedding photography that reflects your day exactly as it happened—natural, emotional, and timeless—I’d love to be part of your story.
