Parish’s House Wedding Photographer

Parish’s House is a beautiful country house wedding venue near Bath, surrounded by gardens, woodland and Somerset countryside.

For couples planning a wedding here, my approach is relaxed and unobtrusive, with a focus on the people, relationships and moments that make the day your own. Rather than turning your wedding into a photoshoot, I photograph it as it naturally unfolds, so that you can spend your time celebrating with the people you love.

I’m Rose Dedman, an award-winning Somerset wedding photographer specialising in documentary wedding photography with an editorial eye. My photographs are natural, emotive and full of life, creating a record not just of how your wedding looked, but how it felt to be there.

Documentary wedding photography at Parish’s House

Parish’s House offers so much scope for natural documentary wedding photography. Living less than 10 minutes away, I know the venue and the surrounding area, and its beautiful house, gardens and Somerset countryside create a wonderful setting for a relaxed wedding day.

With the house, gardens and grounds all forming part of the celebrations, there are opportunities throughout the day to photograph people naturally as they move between different spaces, talk, laugh, hug, celebrate and spend time together.

These are often the photographs that become more important as the years pass. A look between two people. Children disappearing off to explore. Someone laughing during the speeches. A parent watching quietly from the edge of the room. I watch for these moments throughout a wedding day, noticing the small interactions and relationships that help tell the story of the people who were there.

A relaxed approach to your wedding day

My approach to wedding photography is deliberately unobtrusive. I want you to be able to experience your wedding rather than feeling as though you are constantly being directed for photographs. For most of the day, I simply observe what is happening and photograph it. That doesn’t mean there is no guidance at all. Family group photographs can be planned in advance and photographed quickly and efficiently, while portraits of the two of you usually take around 10 to 15 minutes. I’ll offer gentle guidance where it is helpful, but there is no need to perform for the camera. It is simply a little time away together before you return to your guests and the celebrations.

Wedding photography in the gardens at Parish’s House

One of the lovely things about Parish’s House is the variety of surroundings within the venue itself. The gardens, lawns, woodland and countryside provide beautiful settings for photographs without needing to take you away from your wedding for long periods of time. I respond to the day as it unfolds, taking my cues from the light, the weather, the season and what is naturally happening around us. The result is a collection of photographs that feels connected to your wedding rather than a separate photoshoot taking place alongside it.

Photographs of the people who matter

Although the setting at Parish’s House is beautiful, the venue is only part of the story. What interests me most is what happens within it. Your parents seeing you ready for the first time. Friends reunited for the weekend. Children running through the gardens. The expressions during the ceremony. The reactions to speeches. The hugs, conversations and unexpected moments happening around you.

I pay attention not only to the obvious moments, but to the quieter characters and relationships within a wedding too. There are often little threads that run throughout a day, and I love noticing them and following them through my photographs. Together, those moments create something much richer than a record of what your wedding looked like. They tell the story of the people who were there and what it felt like to celebrate with them.

Natural couple portraits at Parish’s House

Alongside the documentary photography, I create a small number of relaxed portraits of the two of you. Parish’s House gives us plenty of options within the grounds, so there is no need for a lengthy portrait session. Around 10 to 15 minutes is usually enough.

For many couples, this also becomes a welcome opportunity to have a little time alone together during a very busy day. I’ll give you gentle guidance where needed and then allow you to settle into being yourselves. The photographs still feel like you, just beautifully observed.

An experienced Somerset wedding photographer

Parish’s House is particularly local to me, less than 10 minutes from my home in Somerset. I know this part of the county well and photograph weddings throughout Somerset, Bath, Bristol, Wiltshire and the wider South West, from intimate celebrations to large country house weddings.

My work has received international recognition from the Family Photojournalist Association and This is Reportage Family, and has also been featured by PhotoVogue.

That documentary experience has taught me to anticipate moments rather than recreate them. I’m always watching what is developing around me, while also knowing when to offer guidance and when to simply leave a moment alone.

For me, successful wedding photography isn’t about controlling the wedding. It is about understanding people well enough to know where to look.
