Baking in our pyjamas | Season of Motherhood

A letter to my younger two: baking in pyjamas.

What better way to start the day than some random baking, in our pyjamas? Your Daddy and older sister gone off to church. We stayed home because you’ve both got an asthmatic cough at the moment and with your track record of spectacular coughing throw-ups (particularly you, my son), it’s just safest to stay home, for all concerned.

So here we are, doing what we love best, totally child-led and fun (I’m kind of sitting on the edge of my seat, but anyway). It was interesting when you emptied the whole pot of drinking chocolate into the icing sugar my boy… your little sister certainly finds you amusing and it definitely makes for a (very) sweet tasting cake. Plus, we had to raid the sweets box for toppings because there were only 4 chocolate eggs left by the time we got to that point.

It is lovely when you guys spend moments working together. The relationship you have is so sweet. A sort of camaraderie, or perhaps co-consipirators. Although in general we could do with a bit less of the fighting and a bit more of the affection, but still. I love it when you whisper together and plot things – when you both cooked “playdoh pizzas” this morning and asked me to eat them. Then you took out most of our real food from our cupboards and made a feast for me, which you presented to me at the kitchen table as I ate my breakfast: a couple of plates full of bananas, a bag of raisins, a plate of yoghurts, an apple and a pear, a plate of cheese puffs and cream cheese and a bag of granola. A feast indeed. I had to persuade you not use the china plates and instead use the safe plastic ones. I love my rainbow china plates.

So now it’s back to screentime for a bit, as is too often the case. But I’m happy that we’ve done real playing this morning and we’ll do some more later I promise.
