The Skittles Experiment: Season of Motherhood | Bath Photographer

I love your enquiring mind. You got a science lab coat last Christmas along with a box of goodies to make volcanoes and other wonderful bubbling experiments. You made a very cute 5 year old in a lab coat. Now six, you are still rocking the outfit (or even dispensing of it all together to experiment in your pants). You regularly raid the cupboard for baking ingredients to see what will happen when you mix things together and sometimes the products of these mixtures even end up in the oven to see if they might be edible at the end of it all (I do make sure I know what’s gone into it first!!).

This time we decided to do the skittles experiment and your little sister wanted to join in. It was as beautiful as it promised to be – with the colours swirling towards each other in the water to make a wonderful pattern. You were fascinated and inspected it closely.

I love to watch you as you learn. Such amazing thoughts and ideas going through your mind – often exploding from your mouth as you exclaim loudly about what is happening. I can see it all in your eyes. And I wonder what you will become. Thoughts in my mind range wildly from scientist to stand up comedian, to teacher to famous gymnast. “The world is your lobster” as Phoebe Buffay would say. I can’t wait to see how you grow and what you will do. But please don’t grow too quickly.

Season of Motherhood is part of Artifact Motherhood, which is a collaboration of artists/mothers from around the world. Sharing stories of the joys and struggles of our journey. Our hopes and dreams for our children. With little nuggets of wisdom here and there. These are more than photographs with dates written on the back. These are the artifacts we are leaving behind for our children and the generations to come.
