Planning Your Wedding Photography at Pennard House
If you’re planning your wedding photography at Pennard House and want photography that feels relaxed, natural and genuinely reflective of the atmosphere of the day, the setting here works beautifully for candid, unobtrusive storytelling.

Surrounded by orchards and Somerset countryside, Pennard House has a softness to it that naturally encourages people to relax into the day. Nothing feels too formal or overly structured and the venue flows beautifully from one space to another, allowing guests to move naturally throughout the celebrations and making it much easier for genuine moments to unfold organically.
As a candid wedding photographer in Somerset based between Bath and Bristol, Pennard House is also wonderfully local to me, just under 30 minutes away. It’s one of my favourite local venues due to how elegant yet informal the place is, how the guests flow from one place to another throughout the day and how it naturally it lends itself to relaxed storytelling and effortless photography throughout the day.

A Wedding Venue That Allows You to Stay Present
One of the loveliest things about Pennard House is that everything is contained within one setting. From getting ready in the morning through to the evening celebrations, the whole day unfolds in a really calm and connected way.
That flow makes a huge difference photographically because it allows moments to happen naturally without lots of interruptions, travelling between locations or guests feeling split across different spaces.
For couples who feel nervous about being photographed, venues like this are often ideal because there’s never a sense of needing to perform for the camera. Instead, the focus stays on the experience itself and the people around you.
My approach is always rooted in observation rather than staging, quietly and artistically documenting the atmosphere, emotion and small in-between moments that often end up meaning the most afterwards.

Natural Light for Candid Wedding Photography
The light at Pennard House is another reason it works so beautifully for relaxed, candid wedding photography.
The Conservatory is especially lovely during ceremonies because it fills with soft natural light, helping photographs feel bright and airy while still keeping the atmosphere intact. The gardens and surrounding grounds also photograph beautifully throughout the day, particularly in the gentler evening light when everything starts to feel slower and more relaxed.
If couples would like a few natural photographs together at some point during the celebrations, there are plenty of quieter corners around the grounds where nothing ever needs to feel overly posed or time-consuming. Often just a short wander for ten minutes is enough before heading back to everyone enjoying the celebrations.
Rather than chasing the perfect wedding photograph, I want my couples to remember how it felt to spend the day surrounded by the people they love most, fully present and enjoying every part of it together. I want the photographs to reflect the atmosphere, emotion and treasured moments as they naturally unfold. For some couples, that may mean having very few posed photographs or even none at all, allowing them to simply enjoy the day while I quietly capture candid memories instead.
Why Pennard House Works So Well for Candid Wedding Photography
Pennard House naturally lends itself to connection and presence. Guests can spread out across the gardens, move easily between indoor and outdoor spaces and settle into the celebrations without the day ever feeling too formal or overwhelming. That kind of atmosphere works beautifully for candid and documentary style wedding photography because it allows genuine interactions and relaxed moments to unfold naturally.
Rather than needing to direct or orchestrate moments, I can step back and quietly observe the story as it unfolds around me. That usually results in photographs that feel much more honest, emotional and reflective of how the day actually felt to be part of.

Making the Most of the Grounds Without Disappearing for Hours
One of the things couples sometimes worry about with wedding photography is spending too much time away from guests. What I love about Pennard House is that you never really have to disappear far. The gardens, orchards and surrounding countryside are all right there within the flow of the venue itself, so if you’d like a little breathing space together at some point, it can happen very naturally without feeling like a big photoshoot.
The grounds also work beautifully across different seasons. Spring blossom in the orchards, warm summer evenings and soft autumn light all bring something slightly different to the atmosphere of the photographs. Even in winter, the interiors and Coach House create such a warm and intimate atmosphere for storytelling.

A Relaxed Approach to Wedding Photography at Pennard House
Every wedding day unfolds differently. Some couples want lots of time with guests and very little time away from the celebrations. Others enjoy having a few quieter moments together during the day. My approach always adapts naturally around what feels right for you.
At a venue like Pennard House, that flexibility works especially well because the setting itself already feels relaxed and welcoming.
For me, the most important thing is always that your photographs reflect not just how your wedding looked, but how it felt to actually be there.
