It was a warm and sunny day, the day I was a Bowood Hotel, Spa & Golf Resort wedding photographer in July, in a window between Covid restrictions. The venue was gorgeous, with everything carefully put together. The pergola looked amazing with the chairs all set out beautifully, just waiting for the ceremony. It almost looked like it could be a wedding on a beach somewhere abroad.

The guests started to arrive and headed for the shade in the marquée, some played Giant Jenga outside, whilst we waited for the bride to arrive. She was delayed by an accident on the motorway (not her car) and the groom started to look slightly nervous. There was a big sigh of relief some time later when she arrived safely with her bridal party and the ceremony was able to start.

It was such a romantic ceremony with everyone so happy that the bride and groom were finally able to tie the knot, after some difficult times during Covid.

Once the official stuff was done, a few group photos had been shot, Pimms and canapés were served, everyone had a fantastic time chatting and catching up after months apart. So many memorable moments full of emotion and sentiment in this wedding. It was an honour to be a part of their day. The group then moved into the Kerry Suite for their wedding breakfast, had some very beautiful speeches and then carried on the relaxed celebrations into the rest of the evening.

I had such a lovely day documenting the many moments and stories during this beautiful wedding day. It’s important as a documentary wedding photographer, to remain hands-off and not to direct (apart from a few group shots if wanted), observing the moments and the emotions unfolding in front of the camera. Capturing real, genuine stories and little stories within stories. The guests are able to relax, the bride and groom feel comfortable and the resulting images feel so real, genuine  and precious.

Here are some of my favourite stills from the day.  Which ones are your favourites?
